Tiara Filbert was a Matriarch on a Mission last night at Penfield High School. Scoring 23 points during the first half of the Blue Devils’ sectional semifinal matchup with HFL, the Batavia forward proved to everyone in attendance that she is undoubtedly one of the top players in Section V Girls Basketball.
I mean, last night was truly something to see. Scoring from inside, scoring from outside, rebounding, playing great defense (including taking charges), cheering on her teammates, helping them be in the correct position….Filbert really, and truly, did it ALL for the Blue Devils vs the Cougars.
Sporting a 35-12 lead at halftime on Monday, thanks to a Filbert bucket at the second quarter buzzer, the Devils would eventually go on to win the game by a final of just 57-49 – but that was with their leading scorer sitting for much of the fourth quarter. Filbert finished with 26 points total.
Moving forward, Batavia will now look ahead to Pittsford Mendon in the Class A2 Title game. Mendon is one of two teams to beat Batavia this season.
