Falling just short of a Section V Finals appearance last year, the Batavia Boys Basketball team will be hungry for more heading into the regular season. With their two top-scorers coming back to lead the team, and many other role players returning as well, the Blue Devils have a solid shot of furthering their success. Here is a brief preview of their 2017-2018 season:

Batavia Blue Devils

Head Coach: Myron Brasky Jr.

Record Last Season: 14-8

Key Players

TeeSean Ayala (Senior) – At times a season ago, TeeSean performed up to the standard of one of the premier players in all of Section V. This year, if he is able to meet the challenges which come with a long winter campaign more-consistently, he could finish in the running for Player of the Year.

Antwan Odom (Junior) – Antwan served as a solid compliment to Ayala last year, and by season’s end, could take a bigger step toward becoming part of a legitimate 1-2 punch alongside his teammate.

Coach’s Outlook

“We have an experienced team coming back, returning four starters and four key subs, and expect to play an up-tempo game to combat our lack of size.

TeeSean and Antwan were our two leading-scorers last year – averaging 21 and 16 points per game respectively – and both players made 1st Team All-Monroe County. This year we hope to have more-balanced scoring, as the other players come back with a years experience under their belt.”

– Batavia HC Myron Brasky Jr.

Batavia fell in the Sectional Semifinals last season, and I expect they will either return to that level of the postseason – or perhaps surpass their finish from a year ago. They have the talent to do it and, although they lack size, their ability to score should place them up there with the top-teams in Class A. Stay tuned for continued coverage of the Blue Devils 2017-2018 season.
