After falling to U Prep in each of the last two seasons, the Batavia Boys Basketball team brought their top-performance to the court in their semifinal matchup with the Griffins last night. A game that was back-and-forth throughout, the Devils proved to have just a bit more than UP on Tuesday, as a Ryan Hogan jumper with 4.4 seconds remaining won the game for Batavia and advanced them to the Class A2 Finals – for the fourth-consecutive season.

Down by one with :15 left, following a Batavia stop of U Prep on the defensive end, the Blue Devils would look to Hogan to go the length of the floor and hit the game-winning shot (as he did vs HFL earlier this season). Here is the video:

As you can see, despite passive defense on part of U Prep, Hogan was able to keep his composure throughout the trip up the floor, find his spot – and nail the eventual game-winner for the Blue Devils. Now, there was 4.4 seconds remaining following the clutch jumper, but UP simply did not have enough left to come back with a clutch shot of their own. Here is the video:

As you can see, the entire Batavia team and fan section was elated with the huge win over a team who has had their number the past two years. And not only that, a team that had been relatively doubted (especially by myself) throughout the second half of the season, had finally come through with the performance everyone knew they had in them.

And boy was it impressive.
