The first weekend home series for the 2018 Batavia Muckdogs ended in damp disappointment, as the Saturday series clincher was rained out after the ‘Dogs and Williamsport Crosscutters split the previous two matchups on Thursday, and Friday.

Following the home stand, Batavia hit the road for State College, Pennsylvania on Sunday, where they met the SC Spikes for an evening matchup – the first of a three-game set.

The Muckdogs won the series opener over the Spikes by a final score of 8-6, using a big sixth, and seventh inning to break the game open. Batavia’s men on the corners did most of the damage for the team offensively, as first baseman Sean Reynolds (1/4, BB, 4 RBI), and third baseman Denis Karas (2/3, BB, 3 RBI) each recorded noteworthy performances.

In Game 2, on Monday evening, Batavia once again came away with the win – this time in a much more low-scoring affair, by the final tally of 4-3. ‘Dogs starter Logan Boyd pitched extremely well over five innings, but failed to pick up a decision. Coming on in his stead was reliever Humberto Mejia, who earned the win despite allowing two earned runs. Jameson McGrane then picked up the save in the ninth, allowing one earned run.

Batavia’s (5-5) series with State College (3-8) will wrap-up tonight in PA, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm.
