Coming into the year, the Batavia Indoor Track team had seen at least one of their athletes qualify for the NYSPHSAA Indoor Track Championships for 24-straight seasons. That streak continued over the weekend, as the Blue Devils are sending nine athletes to compete on Saturday at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, NY.

Butch Ray led the list of BHS athletes at this past weekend’s Section V ‘Meet of Champions’, as the Devils’ thrower qualified in two different events. He won the Section V Shot Put with a distance of 53’11.25″, and finished second in the Weight Throw with a distance of 63’5.25″ – which was five feet short of the leader, Andrew Palermo of Spencerport (68’5.50″).

Eric Davis also won his event at RIT on Saturday, running the 55 Meter Hurdles in 7.65 – which was just .05 quicker than the second place finisher.

Kiaya Franklin was the final individual athlete to qualify for Batavia, placing third in the 300 Meter Dash with a time of 42.38 – but her time of 41.93 at the Section V Championships is the time which allowed her to qualify.

Lastly, the Devils’ 4 x 400 Meter Relay team qualified with a first place finish after running 4:12.10. The team consists of Brianna Bromley, Claire Zickl, Kiaya Franklin, Regan Henrici, Jadin Vasciane and Cali Nichols.

Stay tuned to bataviasbest.org as we continue to follow these athletes at the NYSPHSAA Indoor Track Championships.
