Here is a brief preview of the 2018 Batavia Track and Field team:
Batavia Blue Devils (MC)
Season Outlook: The Batavia Girls are coming off of a 3-2 campaign in 2017 and have a lot of talent returning from that team. Their top-competition in Sectionals will be HF-L, and the Blue Devils hope to work their way towards a Section V Title by season’s end.
The Boys team are two-time defending Section V Champions, and although they have put together a youth-filled roster this season, they should have enough experienced veterans to keep the ball rolling. They expect to compete for a Monroe County League record, as well as another Class Championship. Their top-competition throughout the season will be HFL, Aquinas, Uprep, Greece Olympia, and Wayne.
Key Players: Butch Ray – Last season Butch qualified for the 2017 NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships in the Shot Put, and will once again be a force this year.; Eric Davis – Eric qualified for the 2017 NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships in the 110 M Hurdles, and hopes to recreate his success this year.; Kiaya Franklin – Kiaya was the Blue Devils’ most-impressive competitor last season, qualifying for the 2017 NYSPHSAA Championships in the 400 M (medaled) & 200 M, while also serving as a member of the Devils’ 4×400 M Relay team who also qualified for the state meet, and medaled.; Claire Zickl – Claire was also a member of the Devils’ 2017 4×400 M Relay team. She will compete in mid-distance this season.; Regan Henricci – Regan was also a member of the Devils’ 2017 4×400 M Relay team. She will compete in mid-distance this year as well.
Coach’s Quote: “This season’s team is very hungry to continue the strong tradition that Batavia Track and Field has developed over the past decade,” said Batavia head coach Nick Burk. “There are many verstile and committed athletes who are willing to help the team any way they can.”
