On Saturday afternoon at Falleti Ice Arena, the Notre Dame Hockey team got the best of the Batavia Ice Devils by a final score of 8-2. Leading the way for the Irish in their victory was Henrik Toiviainen, who recorded a hat trick, and Cameron Clark & Bryan Moscicki – who each scored 2 goals in the winning effort.
Despite scoring first in the game, Batavia was unable to continue their momentum deep into the first period, and eventually fell behind 3-2 heading to the second. During the second, the Irish began to put it on the Ice Devils. Both Moscicki and Clark scored during the period and by the time it was over the score was 5-2 ND – a deficit that Batavia would not be able to close. In fact, the Irish added 3 more goals during the final frame (Toiviainen, Toiviainen, Cole Hudson) and the game ended with the 6-goal margin.
All in all it was a tough game for the Devils as they seemed to be outmatched on both ends by an extremely talented, and deep, Notre Dame team. However, with two more matchups to come between these two squads, Batavia will have their chance at revenge.
