Yesterday at Falleti Ice Arena the Notre Dame Hockey team earned the season sweep over the Batavia Ice Devils – winning the third and final regular season matchup between the two teams by a final score of 6-3. Despite the end of the regular season series, however, with the ND win will come another matchup between the two cross-town rivals – this time in the first round of the Sectional Tournament.

Following the game last night, the usual banter between ND and Batavia fans on social media continued to go back-and-forth – as it does before and after each and every one of these matchups throughout the years. However, with a Sectional matchup between the two hanging in the balance, the barbarity of the disagreements between both sides on Saturday seemed to reach a fever pitch.

And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way. In today’s PC world, it is good to know that one true hot-blooded rivalry still exists. And to make matters even more-exciting, that rivalry exists right in our own backyard.

See you Saturday.
