Season Review/Outlook for Next Season

BASEBALL

Alexander

Final 2017-2018 Record: 7-11 overall, 5-7 league (Lost in Class C2 First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: Alexander had a decent regular season, but finished the postseason in disappointing fashion with an early exit.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Erik Scharlau

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Ryan Davis, Junior Takari Lang-Smith, Sophomore Tyrone Woods, Sophomore Dylan Busch

Next Season Outlook: I would expect a more-consistent effort from the Trojans next season, as several underclassmen will return to their roster hoping to lead the team to a league title.

Attica

Final 2017-2018 Record: 11-7 overall, 9-3 league (Lost in Class B First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: It was a relatively disappointing season for the Blue Devils this year, as they bowed out of the postseason before the semifinal round, and with the amount of seniors they had they could not have been satisfied with that finish.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Sam Cusmano, Senior Joe Aguglia, Senior Matt Travis, Senior Logan Veley

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Parker Wildey, Junior Colin Reisdorf, Freshman Zack Strzelec

Next Season Outlook: Back to the drawing board for the Blue Devils next year, as they return very few impact players.

Batavia

Final 2017-2018 Record: 13-8 overall, 7-1 league (Lost in Class A2 Finals)

Past Season Snapshot: Batavia put forth a great effort this season, as they earned an unexpected trip to the Sectional Finals.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Hunter Mazur, Senior Chandler Baker, Senior Jordyn Schmidt, Senior Alec Wagner

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Griffin Della Penna, Junior Sam Sallome, Junior Andrew Francis, Sophomore Jake Humes

Next Season Outlook:  Although they found themselves vying for a Section V Title this season, the Blue Devils won’t return to square one next year, as they return a load of talent.

Byron-Bergen

Final 2017-2018 Record: 1-14 overall, 1-11 league (Lost in Class C1 First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: There wasn’t much to write home about when it came to the Bees this season.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Robert Stevens

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Peyton Armison, Junior Darren Barron, Junior Ryan Cooper

Next Season Outlook: No where to go, but up, for this team.

Cal-Mum

Final 2017-2018 Record: 9-12 overall, 3-5 league (Lost in Class C2 Quarterfinals)

Past Season Snapshot: The regular season was successful for the Red Raiders, but they faltered during the postseason.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Ian Lenhardt, Senior Tanner Richardson, Senior Matt O’Donoghue, Senior Joe Butler

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Sophomore Joe Laursen

Next Season Outlook: Led by a long list of seniors this past year, they will have to regroup next season.

Holley

Final 2017-2018 Record: 9-7 overall, 6-6 league (Lost in Class C1 First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: Holley competed this year, but there season as a whole was best described as average.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Patrick Bower, Senior Michael Passarell, Senior Nick Schutz, Senior Ryan Andrews, Senior Sam Lammes, Senior Brandon Dillenbeck

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Matt Skehan

Next Season Outlook: The Hawks will be in rebuild mode next year.

Le Roy

Final 2017-2018 Record: 12-8 overall, 4-4 league (Lost in Class C1 Quarterfinals)

Past Season Snapshot: Coming off of a Sectional Title, the Knights were bound to face a dip in performance, and they did as they watched a young group come up through the ranks.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Cole Biggins, Senior Luke Stella, Senior Gavin Luckey

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Tyler Slaven, Junior Tim McMullen, Junior Austin Saeva, Junior Reece Tresco, Sophomore Ryan Friend, Sophomore Giavanni Cacamise

Next Season Outlook: This team should be exceedingly impressive next season.

Lyndonville

Final 2017-2018 Record: 6-9 overall, 5-6 league (Lost in Class D1 First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: The Tigers watched an impressive senior class walk out the door in 2017, and suffered the ill effects of their departure this year.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: None

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Zach Johnson, Junior Kane Flynn, Junior Chase Stinson, Freshman Nathan Dillenbeck

Next Season Outlook: It might be another tough year for this team next year, but it remains to be seen what kind of improvement we will see from them in 2019.

Notre Dame

Final 2017-2018 Record: 12-7 overall, 9-2 league (Lost in Class D1 Semifinals)

Past Season Snapshot: The Irish made a surprise trip to the Section V Semifinals this year, but were ousted before earning a berth in the Title game.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Ryan Moffat, Senior Brendin Klotzbach, Senior Devin Grimshaw

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Spencer Misiti, Junior Andrew Tygart, Junior Tim Klotzbach, Junior Christian Cleveland, Junior Zach Cocking

Next Season Outlook: I anticipate another solid season for this group next year, as they have enough returning to make a run.

Oakfield

Final 2017-2018 Record: 8-9 overall, 7-4 league (Lost in Class C2 Quarterfinals)

Past Season Snapshot: Oakfield was a young team this year, and will suffer the loss of only one player who was vital to their overall performance.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Tyler Ohlson

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Seth Doctor, Junior Matt Gilbert, Junior Zack Grazioplene, Sophomore Joe Burdick. Sophomore Aiden Johnston, Freshman Peyton Yasses

Next Season Outlook: A bunch of underclassmen return for the Hornets next year, who hope to make a run at a league title.

Pavilion

Final 2017-2018 Record: 3-16 overall, 1-7 league (Lost in Class D1 Quarterfinals)

Past Season Snapshot: A tough regular season turned into a bit of excitement for the Gophers, who managed to win a sectional game this year despite a disappointing overall mark.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: None

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Freshman Cole Tillotson

Next Season Outlook: They return their best player, but its to know what to expect for this team next year – I don’t have high expectations.

Pembroke

Final 2017-2018 Record: 10-5 overall, 10-2 league (Lost in Class C1 Semifinals)

Past Season Snapshot: Pembroke had a successful season which ended with a loss in the sectional semifinals.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Seth Librock, Senior Reid Miano, Senior Jacob Miller, Senior Zach von Kramer, Senior Casey Shaw

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Sophomore Andrew Krzanak

Next Season Outlook: I expect a tough season for the Dragons next year, as they return very little of what led them this year.

SOFTBALL

Alexander

Final 2017-2018 Record: 16-3 overall, 14-2 league (Lost in Class C2 Quarterfinals)

Past Season Snapshot: Alexander was a relatively young team this season, but that didn’t stop them from finishing atop the GR League.

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Carson Marzolf, Junior McKenna Moran, Junior Jordin Cecere, Sophomore Kayla Yan, Junior Madison Bykowski, Eight Grade Sam Sawyer, Junior Lindsay Czechowski

Next Season Outlook: Next year, I expect the Trojans to be back – with a vengeance.

Attica

Final 2017-2018 Record: 10-10 overall, 9-6 league (Lost in Class B First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: Attica wasn’t a walk-over this season, but they also weren’t one of the elite teams in the GR League.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: No roster submitted

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: No roster submitted

Next Season Outlook: I would expect, at best, more of the same from the Blue Devils next season.

Batavia

Final 2017-2018 Record: 13-9 overall, 7-1 league (Lost in Class A2 Finals)

Past Season Snapshot: Under new leadership this year, the Blue Devils managed to head back to the sectional finals – where they fell to Pittsford Sutherland for the second-consecutive season.

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Ryann Stefaniak, Sophomore Maiya Reinhart, Freshman Mackenzie Reigle, Freshman Bryn Wormley, Sophomore Irelyn Curry

Next Season Outlook: Despite unloading a few strong contributors due to graduation, I anticipate another strong year from this team.

Byron-Bergen

Final 2017-2018 Record: 1-15 overall, 1-7 league (Lost in Class C1 First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: The Bees struggled to find wins this season behind a youthful roster.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Dana VanValkenburg, Senior Peyton Mackey

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Rebecca Velasco, Sophomore Abby Vurraro

Next Season Outlook: A few vital pieces return for B-B, which should make for a few more wins moving forward.

Cal-Mum

Final 2017-2018 Record: 21-4 overall, 7-1 league (Won Class C2 Championship)

Past Season Snapshot: This season, the Red Raiders captured their fifth Section V Title in the past seven years behind an experienced roster.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Makenzie Wilson, Senior Hannah Rubinrott, Senior Meghan Mietlicki, Senior Andrea Coyle

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Sophomore Grace Walker, Junior Katie Harmon, Eighth Grade Montgomery Kessler

Next Season Outlook: This team will be an interesting one to watch next year, as they’re losing their starting pitcher, along with plenty of offensive firepower.

Elba

Final 2017-2018 Record: 7-10 overall, 6-8 league (Lost in Class D2 First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: After a Section V Championship season in 2017, the Lancers struggled after suffering major losses to graduation after winning the title.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: None

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Maddi Howard, Freshman Kallie Totten, Sophomore Lauryn Engle

Next Season Outlook: The Lancers don’t graduate a single senior this year, opening the door for improvement next season.

Holley

Final 2017-2018 Record: 4-13 overall, 3-11 league (Lost in Class C1 First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: The Hawks have struggled in recent years, but picked up a few exciting victories in 2018, which led to a resurgent season of sorts.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Madison Papaj, Senior Kassandra Norman

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior Madison Marsh, Junior Jocelyn Chilton

Next Season Outlook: I’m not certain that Holley can keep the train rolling next season, but they do have a bit returning to their roster – which will make it easier for them to continue improving.

Le Roy

Final 2017-2018 Record: 14-8 overall, 3-5 league (Won Class C1 Championship)

Past Season Snapshot: It was an extremely successful campaign for Le Roy, as the Knights kind of came out of no where during the postseason and won a Section V Title.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Tori Trader, Senior Taylor Sherman, Senior Julie Prinz, Senior Jaidyn Smith, Senior Haley Scripp, Senior Erin Cappotelli, Senior Abby Dambra

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Freshman Hayley Papp, Freshman Bryn Luckey, Freshman Brenna Fenstermaker

Next Season Outlook: They will have to absorb plenty of losses due to graduation, but I believe the Knights can compete for a Section V Title once again next year.

Lyndonville

Final 2017-2018 Record: 15-3 overall, 13-1 league (Lost in Class D1 Semifinals)

Past Season Snapshot: The Tigers weren’t successful in defending their Section V Title, which they won in 2017, but that doesn’t erase the fact that they had plenty of success during the regular season.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Miranda Lembcke

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Eighth Grade Ella Lewis, Junior Anna Lewis, Junior Alecia Hinkson, Junior Stacy Buckland, Eighth Grade Grace Johnson

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Alexa Cory, Senior Kylie Schlagenhauf, Senior Serina Velletta, Senior Madi LaGrou, Senior Justina Pruski, Senior Lauren Reding

Most Impressive 2017-2018 Underclassmen: Junior MacKenzie Wood, Sophomore Brianna Smith

Pavilion

Final 2017-2018 Record: 1-18 overall, 1-7 league (Lost in Class D1 First Round)

Past Season Snapshot: Pavilion had limited success this year.

Key 2017-2018 Departures: Senior Sarah Howden, Senior Elizabeth Penders, Senior Katelyn Schroeder

Pembroke
