It is now time to announce the winners of the 2015 Batavia’s Best Football Awards:

MVP

Although Batavia is still playing, Greg currently has 1,832 passing yards on 102/154 passing. He has thrown 31 touchdowns against just 4 interceptions.

Batavia QB Greg Mruczek

Greg was undoubtedly the most impressive high school football player in the area this season. With 1,832 passing yards to go with an elite 31/4 TD-Interception ratio, Greg proved each week why he was the player who deserved our MVP.

(Runner up: Jack Sutherland – Notre Dame RB)

Offensive Player of the Year

Where in some cases, I would choose to go a different route for Offensive Player of the Year, considering Mruczek also walked away with the MVP Award. However, putting together such a fine season for a Sectional Championship team, Greg is the sure-fire choice for this award.

(Runner up: Alex Piechocki – Attica RB)

Defensive Player of the Year

Batavia LB Dom Mogavero

Dom has propelled a Batavia defensive attack which has allowed just 125 points through 10 games this season. In total during 2015, Dom has totaled over 100 tackles, 10+ of which have gone for a loss, while also picking up an interception and 3 sacks.

(Runner up: Andrew Gottler – Elba/Byron-Bergen LB)

Special Teams Player of the Year

Cal-Mum K Josh Roides

Josh was fantastic for the Red Raiders this season, and was surely the top kicker in the area this season. Perhaps his finest moment this season was when he made two field goals in Cal-Mum’s 12-0 win over York/Pavilion.

(Runner up: Ray Leach – Batavia KR)

Lineman of the Year

Austin Bremiller – Attica

Austin received the highest number of recommendations from a pool of area football coaches whom I asked to assist me in deciding the linemen awards this season. It is tough for me to truly determine which individual linemen on which teams are performing the best, as I do not have the benefit of game tape following each contest. Therefore, I rely on the coaches’ opinions for this one.

(Runner up: Riley Kusmierski – Alexander OL)

Coach of the Year

Mike Cintorino – Elba/Byron-Bergen

Elba/Byron-Bergen was a team in transition this season having replaced their top three threats out of the backfield from a season ago, along with many other key players. Therefore, I did not have very high expectations for this group entering the year. However, despite my utter idiocy, Cintorino led his group to a fine season within the GR League, along with a Sectional berth.

(Runner up: John Walther – Cal-Mum HC)

Underclassman of the Year

batavia vs livonia - 1 (16)

Ray Leach – Batavia

Leach has contributed greatly to this Batavia attack through his play out of the backfield, on special teams, as well as on defense. Only a freshman, I’m sure we will see Ray up for the MVP, as well as all other top awards in years to come.

(Runner up: Zach von Kramer – Pembroke)
