Here is the second edition of REGULAR SEASON Power Rankings for the 2017-2018 local HS Boys Basketball season. There have been two changes made:

1. Batavia

Batavia won the Batavia Lions club Tournament a few weeks back, which furthered a short winning streak for the Devils. Tonight, their current good fortune will be put to the test against a tough Canandaigua team in the Braves’ home gym.

2. Pembroke

The Dragons are undefeated, and a top Section V Championship contender in Class C1.

3. Le Roy (+1)

Le Roy recently defeated Cal-Mum in order to surpass the Raiders in the Power Rankings, but have suffered a few tough losses since then. However, on Saturday they dominated Cuba-Rushford in order to revive their winning ways.

4. Cal-Mum (-1)

Cal-Mum fell to Le Roy, but remains as a team which I believe can win a Section V Title. They’ll have another shot at the Knights down the road.

5. Alexander

Alexander has more depth than I believed they would this season, and they’ve proved themselves as a top-5 team in the area.

6. Notre Dame

Notre Dame’s undefeated streak ended with a loss to crosstown rival Batavia. This week, they have two more tough matchups – with Oakfield and Pembroke.

7. Oakfield

Oakfield will need a win over Notre Dame in order to surpass the Irish in my Power Rankings.

8. Elba

Elba lost a lot a season ago, but has returned with reinforcements which have driven them to a favorable record to begin the season. Look for this team to make some noise come playoff time.

9. Attica

Attica has suffered the ills of a few key losses from a season ago.

10. Pavilion

Pavilion has done a nice job against the weaker competition on their schedule, but has yet to record a signature victory.

11. Byron-Bergen

The Bees have depth in their starting lineup, but after losing a star player a season ago, they lack a true scorer who can carry them through dry spells.

12. Holley

Holley picked up their first win in over two years earlier this season. The Hawks are trending upward under new head coach Wil Prince.

13. Wheatland-Chili (+1)

The Wildcats recently defeated Lyndonville.

14. Lyndonville (-1)

The Tigers are enduring a transitional campaign.

Stay tuned as the season goes on for an updated list of my top-teams in the local area.

  1. You are so biased towards Batavia I swear you need your head examined.
