Byron-Bergen’s Brandon Burke has been Genesee County’s shining star in the Track and Field world, as the Bees jump specialist finished the season with a High Jump of 6’7″ – which puts him as the Section V Leader heading into the Track Championships this weekend. He will also be ranked near the top in the Triple Jump.

Heading into the big meet, I had a chance to communicate with Burke a few weeks ago, and he is confident he can bring home a title for his school.

“I think I can definitely win at Sectionals, and make it to the state meet,” he said. “But there are a lot of very good jumpers this year so winning at states will be difficult, but it is not out of reach.”

Aside from Burke there are several other athletes, both boys and girls, who are ranked near the top in all of Section V as well:

  • Anthony Ray (Batavia) – Shot Put
  • Adonis Davis (Batavia) – Triple Jump, High Jump
  • Kiaya Franklin (Batavia) – 400 m, 200 m
  • Mason Woodard (Oakfield) – High Jump
  • Sal Schwable (Oakfield) – Triple Jump
  • Damien Bush (Oakfield) – 1500 m
  • Lucas Kohorst (Pembroke) – 800 m
  • Killian Lewis (Pembroke) – Discus
  • Sophia Zwolinski (Pembroke) – 400 h
  • Hannah Duftweiler (Pembroke) – Shot Put
  • Johnae Naylor (Byron-Bergen) – Shot Put
  • Rebecca Krenzer (Notre Dame) – Discus
  • Stephany Samis (Le Roy) – Pentathlon
  • Mitch Chudzik (Attica) – Shot Put
  • Alex Hogue (Wheatland-Chili) – 3200 m

All of the above names were recorded as top-athletes in their respective events via the Section V Leaderboard with is posted on yen timing. If I left anyone out let me know.

Good luck to all local athletes, and teams this weekend as they compete for a championship.
