It was a cold one at Hartwood Park in Le Roy on Wednesday night, but that didn’t stop Cal-Mum/Byron-Bergen RB Bryce Yockel from heating up the Red Raiders’ offense to the tune of 3 total touchdowns on their team’s way to a 22-7 victory over their rival. The win for CMBB avenged an early-season loss to LR.

Yockel’s 20 carries for 118 rushing yards, 68 receiving yards, and the 3 scores not only led his team to a win in the 87th meeting between the two programs, but also a Connors and Ferris Bowl Class C1 title.

The Connors and Ferris Bowls are held each year in order to give those teams which didn’t make the Section V Playoffs a chance at another game or two. This is the first time that I can remember that both Le Roy and Cal-Mum/Byron-Bergen (originally Cal-Mum) both were playing for a C&F Bowl title this season, as opposed to a Section V Title – of which the two programs have combined to win 30 since 1977.

Any way that you look at it, this year was a disappointing one when it came to the ‘Route 5 Rivalry’. Two relatively lopsided games, neither team making the playoffs – it just didn’t have the zip that it typically does year-in, and year-out. With that being said, as both squads will return much of what propelled them this season, I expect a much more exciting experience in 2019.
