The Pembroke Girls Basketball team has put together quite the start to the 2017-2018 season, as the Dragons improved their overall record to 4-1 last night with a 53-52 comeback win, over Alexander.

“(Early-on) Alexander wouldn’t allow us to get any offensive rhythm,” commented Pembroke head coach Ron Funke following the game. “Our girls persevered against a real tough defense.”

Despite trailing by as many as 10 points in the second half, the Dragons looked to their leading scorer Olivia Kohorst to lead them back into contention late in the third. Able to do so, Kohorst scored 18 of her game-high 25 points throughout the final two quarters, and paced a fierce Dragons comeback – which allowed for some clutch play from two of the team’s role players.

After falling behind to begin the half, and then the run which was sparked by Kohorst, Pembroke’s Emily Peters hit a huge three-pointer to tie the game late in the fourth. Then, scoring the go-ahead, and game-winning bucket for the Dragons was Dekari Moss – on an offensive rebound putback with :06.8 on the clock. Moss’ layup gave Pembroke the one-point victory.

“Dekari scored the first eight points of the game for us, and the final two (which gave us the win),” continued Funke. “She had a great night.”

Moss finished with a remarkable 17 points, and 11 rebounds.

With the win, Pembroke is now one of four teams with a 2-1 record within the GR League – all of whom are looking up at Oakfield, who is 3-0 within the league.

Next up for the Dragons will be a matchup with the Hornets tomorrow night.
