With Week 1 of the HS Football season just over three weeks away Section V released the official 2018 schedule yesterday afternoon, and there are plenty of matchups to look forward to this year. Here is a list of nine contests which you should make sure you’re watching out for over the next few months:

Week 1

Batavia vs Hornell – Friday, August 31

Hornell throttled Batavia in last season’s Section V Class B semifinals, ending the Blue Devils’ streak of three-straight Sectional Titles. Batavia will be out for vengeance in Week 1.

Week 2

Alexander vs Canisteo-Greenwood – Friday, September 1

In 2017 Canisteo was one of the most-difficult tests for Alexander last season, whose season ended with a loss in the Section V Class D title game. This year, the Trojans will be looking for their third-straight trip to the Sectional Finals.

Livonia vs Batavia – Friday, September 7

Livonia is the second of two-straight difficult tests for Batavia to begin the 2018 season. The Bulldogs fell to Hornell in the Section V Class B title game last year, and have reached the Sectional Finals in two of the last four seasons, but are looking for their first title since 1993.

Week 3

Attica vs Le Roy – Friday, September 14

Two local teams square-off for the first time since the GRAA merged with the LCAA.

Week 4

Le Roy vs Cal-Mum/Byron-Bergen – Friday, September 21

The rivalry continues after a thrilling Le Roy victory last regular season. However, Cal-Mum/Byron-Bergen went on have the last laugh in 2017, as they went on to defeat the Knights in the Class C semifinals on their way to another Class C Title.

Week 5

Batavia vs Attica – Friday, September 28

A battle between Blue Devils in the two teams’ first year as divisional foes. Batavia joined the LCAA/GRAA this year.

Week 6

Cal-Mum/Byron-Bergen vs Livonia – Friday, October 5

Livonia will likely serve as a measuring stick for Cal-Mum/Byron-Bergen. The Bulldogs are consistently one of the best teams in Class B.

Bath-Haverling vs Le Roy – Friday, October 5

Like CMBB’s matchup with Livonia, Le Roy’s game against Bath-Haverling in Week 6 will be good preparation for what the Knights’ hope is another successful postseason run. Bath-Haverling is always amongst the top-teams in Class C.

Week 7

Pembroke vs York/Pavilion – Friday, October 12

Two teams who will likely be playing for a spot in the postseason come Week 7.
