Despite trailing for much of the game, the Cal-Mum Softball team prevailed over rival Le Roy on Friday evening in what was a game for the ages. The hero for the Red Raiders turned out to be Andrea Coyle, who doubled home Grace Walker in the bottom of the seventh inning to give C-M the walk off win.

Behind 4-2 going into the fifth inning, the Red Raiders tied the score at four-all in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a RBI single from starting pitcher Hannah Rubinrott. That score would hold until the bottom of the seventh, when Coyle came through with her clutch extra-base hit.

“Andrea is really hitting the ball well for us,” said Cal-Mum head coach Dan Dickens following the win. “She came up big again for us tonight.”

Coyle finished the game 3/4 including a two-run home run, the game-winning double, two runs scored, and a total of four RBI. Walker joined her in recording a notable performance as she notched a 3/4 day as well, including two runs scored. Rubinrott earned the win inside the circle for the Raiders, striking out six while allowing five hits.

Abby Dambra was the offensive player of note for Le Roy in the heartbreaking loss, as she roped a two-RBI single in the third inning. Hayley Papp picked up the tough luck loss inside the circle for the Knights, striking out 10 while allowing seven hits. She also went 2/4 at the plate.

“The last few years it seems all of our games (vs Le Roy) come down to the last at bat,” commented Dickens on their ongoing rivalry with LR. “I’m proud of the way we fought back after we lost (our) last game.”

With the win Cal-Mum improves to 4-1 overall, while Le Roy falls to 1-1.
