Happy roster making day, everybody!  Welcome to the FedEx playoffs. Unlike Tiger Woods, we have made it to the Barclays Tournament.  To start off let’s recap how last week’s picks went.

Brandt Snedeker had me using all kinds of eggplant emojis on Friday when he shot a 61.  Going into Sunday I felt like he had a very good chance at winning the whole tournament.  Unfortunately, I suspect he got into a mason jar of Southern moonshine a little early on Sunday – as he shot a 75 on the final day.  As far as I’m concerned, BSneds owes us all a couple bucks.  That said, he still got us 77.00 Fps which was good for a mediocre $133/per fantasy point.

Ben Martin on the other hand was gold.  Not only was he gold, he was low owned gold.  At $82.72/per fantasy point Ben Martin gave us a solid return.

I jinxed Vaughn Taylor pretty good on Sunday when he was at -10.  I opened my stupid trap on Twitter and he bogeyed 3 holes in a row.  That is my bad. But not really, because me saying anything on twitter has no bearing on how life will play out.  Aside from possibly my own if my employers don’t like what I have to say.  But rather than digress into a life lesson, I will break down Taylor’s return on investment.  At $93.05/per fantasy point Vaughn Taylor was well worth the $6,700 investment, and had he not choked, he would’ve been a huge bargain.

Onto the Barclays…

The Barclays is the opening round of the Fedex Cup Tournament and will feature 120 golfers vying to move on to the nextthe barclays round of 100 at the Deutsche Bank Championship.  I think that it is important to know two things about this tournament going in.

First of all, including ties the top 70 will make the cut this weekend.  That means that roughly 60% of golfers will be making the cut.  We need golfers that will not only make the cut, but go low in doing so.  Birdie average and par 4 scoring are important stats to consider when building a team.

Secondly, Draftkings has decided to use soft pricing like they do for major tournaments.  This means there will likely be duplicate lineups aplenty in GPPs.  You have to ask yourself, “Do I want to differentiate myself from the pack?” or “Do I want to play some chalk?”

I would recommend making a chalky lineup and a stars and scrubs lineup with low owned guys with high scoring potential.

dustin johnsonThis week, my high end value play is going to be Dustin Johnson.  I think that, with him being up there with Spieth, Day, Rose, and Koepka, DJ might be the lowest owned of the bunch.  I am not being a contrarian with no basis.  The Snowman won the last time Plainfield C.C. hosted this event in 2011.  He also showed me a lot in the PGA.  I half expected him to blow off the final round after that opening hole but he battled back and even got a T10 finish.

My middle tier value play of the week is David Lingmeth.  I can’t tell you how much I hate the way he wears his hat or how he’s always squinting but he has been in the best form of any golfer on tour (save Brooks Koepka and Jason Day).  At his price tag I feel like he should be highly owned but I am terrible at projecting ownership levels.

My lower tier value play of the week is Kevin Chappell.  His game suits this course very well because he has the ability to go very low.  At $6,700, I feel that Chappell possess the par 4 scoring ability we are looking for.  I suspect that Chappell will be in the top 20 come Sunday and from there we just have to pray he does not crumble.

My bold prediction for the week is the winner will be a whopping -20.  When building your lineup try and remember that even a couple 68s on Thursday and Friday may not be enough to play on the weekend.

Find players who will go low and you will get paid.

Good luck this weekend!
