On the road to begin the season, the Elba Boys Basketball team picked up a non-league win over Section VI’s Barker last night by a final score of 54-44.
“(We) got a nice test right off the bat tonight,” said Elba HC Ciaci Zambito following the Lancers’ victory on Tuesday. :We made winning plays down the stretch, and closed the game out.”
Behind 28-27 at the halftime break, Elba mounted a comeback in the second half and used a big fourth quarter to pull away from Barker and finish with the 10-point advantage.
Leading the way for Elba offensively in this one were Collin O’Halloran, and Jon Boyce, as both finished with 17 points a piece. Colton Dillon also contributed a strong performance on the offensive end for the Lancers, and chipped in 13 points of his own. Only five players scored for Elba.
“I told my guys that we needed to stay out of foul trouble, as we only dressed seven players due to a few contracting an illness,” added Zambito.
Next up for the Lancers (1-0) will be another non-league matchup, this time vs Albion (VI) tomorrow night.
