The Elba Boys Basketball team has had Notre Dame’s number in what is beginning to look like one of the last true rivalries within the GR League. In a heated gymnasium last night, the Lancers defeated the Irish for the second time this season, this time by a final score of 43-36.
Ahead by five at the end of the first half, the Lancers finished the game hot from beyond the arc – which sparked their late push and helped them win the game. Hitting the big shots late in the fourth were Shane O’Halloran and Jordan Miller, who each knocked down three-pointers inside the final three minutes to increase Elba’s lead to a sizable margin.
With the win, the Lancers remain as the top-team in the GR League with a few games to play.
Leading the way for Elba in the win was John Hochmuth, who finished with 16 points. O’Halloran was just behind him, however, finishing with 12 points. For Notre Dame Luca and Nico Zambito led the team with 12 and 11 points respectively.
ND was plagued by poor shooting throughout the night, going a putrid 12/55 from the field, and 4/18 from beyond the arc. Their defense on the Lancers was impressive, however.
The Irish will look to finish the season strong later this week.
