Following a gutting overtime loss to Notre Dame this past Friday night, it was going to be difficult for the Elba Boys Basketball team to rebound, and move forward into this week’s string of contests. However, the Lancers were able to fight through the emotions of the difficult loss last night, and rolled Wheatland-Chili by a final score of 55-26.

“We have what we call a ‘next play’ mentality with everything we do,” commented Elba HC Ciaci Zambito following the game on Wednesday evening. “Win, lose, or draw, we have to move on (from the past).”

Defense carried the day for Elba, as they held W-C to just 10 points throughout the first half, but they also received big performances from their ‘big three’.

Behind 16 points from forward Jon Boyce, 15 points from forward Colton Dillon, and 11 points from guard Collin O’Halloran, the Lancers restored the momentum of their early-season success, and put another foot forward – toward competing for a GR League Title.

“We (put the Notre Dame game in the past) tonight,” continued Zambito. “I love this team, and I love our toughness.”

Coming up next for Elba will be another difficult league game vs Kendall tomorrow night. The Eagles are 2-1, and like the Lancers, are another team right on the brink of making a run toward the GR League Championship.

Again, Elba will be tested on Friday night.
