Tonight in the 132 lbs Division II NYSPHSAA Title match #2 seed Alexander’s Nick Young was a heartbeat away from capturing his first state championship, but his opponent stole it right from under his nose.
Ahead the entire match against #7 seed Luke Bokina of Mattituck High School (XI), Young made a grave mistake in the final seconds, and allowed Bokina to turn him over from his belly to his back, which gave the Mattituck grappler two points, the win, and the title. Prior to the late score from Bokina, Young had led the match 1-0 after an escape during the second period, which seemed to be enough for the win – until the final seconds.

The loss wraps up what has been a stellar high school career for Young, who won four-straight Section V Titles dating back to the 2014-2015 season. Although he will exit without a NYSPHSAA Title, history will show that Nick was one of the most-dominant wrestlers in New York State throughout the last four years.
