ESPN.com – Bill Jacobs has been a fan of the Buffalo Bills since 1974. Since 2000, his favorite team has failed to qualify for the postseason — the longest active playoff drought of any team among the four major North American professional sports leagues.

Yet Jacobs, a roofer from nearby Rochester with a graying mustache, is hardly jaded. Rather, he arrived early at St. John Fisher College on Friday to attend his first training camp practice. He has also made a significant financial investment: his first Bills season tickets in 43 years of following the team.

This is awesome. Fans like Bill are what makes Buffalo such a great fanbase whose loyalty outmeasures most around the NFL. After a 17-year playoff drought, no Super Bowl Titles, and a coaching change seemingly every two years for the past twenty, Bill has seen the light and believes that the Bills “can make it” this season.

God only knows why Bill decided now is the time to purchase season tickets. The Bills sucked last year.

However, as a fellow irrational fan, a part of me completely understands why he chose this year as the year. After all, the Bills are going to win the Super Bowl eventually.

Aren’t they?
