Beginning with Batavia Girls Basketball’s Sectional Final win over Mendon, and finishing with Batavia Boys Basketball’s Sectional Final win over Wilson, looking on at five separate Championship wins by local teams this past week was incredible. Not only were teams within our coverage area able to go 5/5 in those games, they were also each able to do so in convincing fashion.

The team that couldn’t, did – Batavia Boys Basketball, Sectional Champs
Being a former high school athlete (if you can call it that) without a Sectional Championship himself, I understand how elusive the highly sought after Sectional Block can be. In fact, I’m the only one in my immediate family without a Sectional Title (Dad 6, Older brother 1, Younger brother 2), and boy does it piss me off every single day.
For those who finished on top of the Sectional Mountain this past week, just know how fortunate it is that you are to have one. These are moments with your teammates that will never pass, and never leave the front of your mind – for as long as you live. Over the past few days, I’ve spoken with former Sectional Championship winners both young, and old, and very old. and each of them talk about their times hoisting the Block in comparable terms.
In short, they never forgot their time on top of the heap.
And I’m certain all five Championship Teams from this weekend won’t either.
Congrats to all on such a successful Section V Winter Sports season. It truly was a lot of fun.
