Sometimes things fall apart so better things can come together.

And after falling apart vs Geneseo three times during the regular season, that was the case for Notre Dame Hockey last night, as they finally got over the hump and came together vs the Lakers in the two sides’ fourth matchup of the season – this time with the Sectional Title on the line.

What a game it was for the Irish.

Imposing their will throughout the affair on both ends, including numerous instances where scrappy play turned into intense jawing back-and-forth from one team to the other, the Irish simply had it going on Sunday afternoon – and there was little Geneseo could have done to stop them.

Everything just seemed to work for ND – starting with the play of their goaltender.

Sort of an unsung hero this season for the Irish, Ethan Conrad performed incredibly between the pipes for ND – not only recording a shutout in the Sectional Final game, but also making various impressive saves throughout the contest. Thus far in his career, yesterday was Conrad’s crowning achievement.

On the other side, Geneseo netminder Morgan Brown also played a fantastic game for the Lakers, but allowing a tough goal early-on to ND’s Henrik Toiviainen, his team was never able to pick him up with a goal of their own – due to the comparative strong play from the Irish goalie.

All in all, yesterday was a great day for Notre Dame and their fans – who came out to support their team in droves on Sunday. The Gene Polisseni Center at RIT was packed from start to finish, making for an incredible Section V Hockey atmosphere – one that I’m sure the Irish will never forget.
