Hannah and the Lady Hornets had a successful season this year, despite falling to Perry late in the sectional round. Here is her profile:

AB: You girls really had a tough end to the season, but still accomplished a lot. What will you remember most about this year – the tough end, or the fantastic overall season?

HL: I think we will all remember the end of the season because everyone always remembers the last loss of the season.  However, as a team we accomplished so much together.  Going into the season Mr. Schlagenhauf told us all that we could go really far and do well.  After winning the Roy-Hart tournament I think we all bought into that.  Also, since I am a senior, I will definitely remember how good of a season we had and all the memories we made together on and off the court.

AB: What will you miss most about this team, this year?

HL: The thing I’m going to miss most and already miss is just being with the team all the time.  Basketball is a very long season and we’re together two hours or more six days a week.  You form a bond with all the girls on the team and you get really close.  After we lost to Perry, Mr. Schlagenhauf was talking to us in the locker room.  He was saying how the thing we will miss most is coming to practice and just being with each other, and he’s absolutely right.  In the future I’m not going to remember the win and loss record, I’m going to remember all the bus rides and the times in the locker room.

AB: Did you feel like you accomplished all you set out to this season?

HL: In November, the team set goals to hopefully accomplish by the end of the season.  Two of them were to win sectionals and win the division.  Even though we didn’t accomplish those specific goals I think we accomplished others.  Winning the Roy-Hart tournament, beating  Notre Dame, and playing in the second week of sectionals were all goals we achieved and were successful in.

AB: Moving onto softball season, with the way basketball ended, will that motivate you to really leave it all out there on your way out of high school?

HL: After losing the way we did I definitely think that motivates me to leave it all on the field.  Being the only senior on the team this year, I have to step up and be a leader.  With that being said, I’m going to do all I can to play my best for myself and for my team.

AB: Finally, being a multi sport athlete, what was the hardest part of performing well in each season?

HL: The hardest part about performing well in each season is staying focused and always giving 100% the whole time.  With playing two sports and a travel sport, work, and school, it can be really hard to keep up with everything.  Some days it’s hard to do your best the whole time but if you do it pays off in the end.

Hannah provided us with a detailed look into just what the end of her senior season was like. I’m sure other departing seniors can relate.
