The Holley Football team began their season with an opening day loss to Geneseo yesterday, by the final score of 16-6. In what was a scoreless game after one quarter of play, the Blue Devils managed to find pay dirt twice during the second quarter – and held on to defeat the Hawks by the ten point margin.

The first of Geneseo’s two scores came on a strong run from Jake Laidlaw, who capped off a long drive and gave his team the game’s first lead. The second of the Blue Devils’ TDs came on defense, as Kyle MacDonald picked off a Holley pass and took it 50 yards for the score. At halftime, it was 16-0 Geneseo.

During the second half, the Blue Devils failed to extend their lead, but Holley managed just 6 points during the final two quarters and fell short of a comeback. The lone Hawks’ score came after a bad snap from Geneseo on fourth down gave Holley possession at the Devils’ 25 yard line. Ryan Andrews finished the short scoring drive with a one-yard QB keeper for the TD.

With the loss, Holley starts the season 0-1, while Geneseo begins 1-0.
