It’s Week 7 of the regular season and two local Section V Football teams are fighting for their playoff lives tonight, as Le Roy and York/Pavilion currently sit at 3-3, and are each likely a win away from punching their ticket to the postseason.

Le Roy is home vs a tough Wayland-Cohocton team who comes in at 4-2 following a decisive 62-6 victory over Red Jacket in Week 6. York/Pavilion will have an easier road to a win tonight, as they matchup with 2-4 Pembroke, but the Dragons are a dangerous team which has already pulled two major upsets this year (Mynderse, Notre Dame) and will be looking for a third.

The Knights should already be in postseason position, but a terrible loss to Wellsville in Week 2 haunts them to this day and is the primary reason why they are likely one loss away from being eliminated from the playoff conversation.

On the other hand, after suffering through a tough stretch in recent seasons, York/Pavilion has done all that they can do to keep their heads above water this year. It’s been setbacks vs elite teams Alexander, Perry/Mt. Morris, and Canisteo Greenwood that have given them their three losses.

If I had to pick one of these teams to win tonight it would undoubtedly be York/Pavilion. The Golden Knights have won two in a row and have seemed to hit their stride offensively over the past two weeks.

On the other side of the coin, Le Roy’s offense has struggled all year long and has scored over 20 points on just two occasions. To make matters worse, LR is going up against one of the most high-powered offenses in Class C in Wayland-Cohocton who has scored 54, and 62 points in the past two weeks respectively. I just don’t think it looks good for Le Roy tonight.

If you want a more in-depth look at what each local team faces this week, please take a look at my most recent Sectional Watch update, which further explains where we sit heading into Week 7.

Also, whatever happens tonight be sure to tune in during the game on Twitter, and check back here following each local game this weekend for sectional updates.

It’s sure to be an action-packed weekend.
