In a packed gymnasium at Cal-Mum HS, the Le Roy Girls Volleyball team defeated Byron-Bergen in 4 sets in order to advance to the NYSPHSAA Tournament.
Earlier tonight, Byron-Bergen won a close first set by a 25-19 tally, then Le Roy came back in set 2 with a 25-20 victory – evening the set score at 1-1. It was the Bees who rode the early energy brought by their faithful fans who made the trip to C-M, but the Knights power game came through for them in the second set – allowing them to seize control of the match just before its midpoint.
In set 3, it was again Le Roy getting the better of Byron-Bergen, as the Knights won the frame by the widest margin yet – a 25-17 tally. At this point, it seemed as if the Bees were losing their grip on this contest.
In the fourth set, it was again all Knights, as they finished off B-B with a 25-16 win – taking the set, and the match by a final of 3 sets to 1.
With the win, Le Roy improves to 22-0. Their next matchup in the NYSPHSAA Class C Sub-Regional vs Section III’s Lafayette HS – which will take place @ Victor High School on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
Stay tuned for continued coverage of the Knights’ postseason run.
