The slipper fit for the Le Roy Softball team yesterday afternoon, as the #6 seed Knights’ Cinderella run continued with a 5-3 win over #1 seed Gananda in the Class C1 Title game. It’s the second title for the Knights in the last three years.

The #6 seed Knights knocked off the #3 seed last Wednesday in the quarterfinals, dispatched the #2 seed in the semifinals, and dropped the #1 seed in the finals yesterday.

A four-run first inning sparked Le Roy on Tuesday, but it was starting pitcher Hayley Papp who carried the day for her team from inside the circle. The tournament MVP, Papp hurled a complete game, allowing five hits, and striking out 11 in the championship.

Offensively for the Knights Jaidyn Smith carried the big bat, finishing with a double, and 2 RBI, while Brenna Fenstermaker, and Tori Trader each knocked in a run as well.

Le Roy jumped out to a 4-2 lead after one inning on Tuesday, and those four runs were enough for the Knights to take home the Class C1 Title.

The latter two were selected to the All-Tournament team, along with shortstop Erin Cappotelli.

Next up for Le Roy will be longtime rival Cal-Mum in the Section V Class C Playoff game, where they will meet longtime rival Le Roy. The Knights fell to the Red Raiders twice in 2018.
