Malachi is one of the toughest players I have ever coached in any sport, as he has continued to prove this to be true with each game throughout his varsity career. Going into a do-or-die game tonight, expect the Devils’ senior forward to power his team to a strong effort.

Malachi Chenault – Batavia High School – Boys Basketball

6’2″ – 185 lbs – Senior

Career Highlight #1 – Going to Glens Falls my freshman year
Career Highlight #2 – Having the most dunks in Batavia High School Basketball history
Career Highlight #3 – Scoring 24 points vs Brighton

Favorite thing about High School Sports: “The student sections and the way it can bring people together.”

Most memorable moment in High School Sports career: “All the #1 seed banquets for sectionals that I’ve been to.”

Plans after High School: “Attend a 4-year college, play basketball.”

AB: This being your Senior year, how will you look back on the entirety of your basketball career? Do you view it as a success? Or does that remain to be seen?

MC: I definitely view my basketball career as a success due to being moved up to varsity my 8th grade year and being in the Sectional finals every full year since I was on the team.

AB: After winning a sectional title early-on in your career, do you believe this team has some unfinished business this season after coming up short in the finals a season ago?

MC: Sure we have unfinished business. I believe Batavia is about due for another sectional title and this team is more than capable after already beating the number one seed in our bracket, earlier this season.

AB: How will it feel leaving your teammates after this season comes to a close?

MC: It will be tough because this is almost if not the most adversity I’ve faced with a team and going through it all with my teammates has only drawn us closer, I believe.

AB: What will you remember most about playing with this group?

MC: The way we are able to joke around with one another and to not have that person get too mad or take it to personal is what I’ll remember the most about this group.

AB: Finally, your brother is on the team this season, and although he hasn’t contributed much, he really has an opportunity to be a strong players for Batavia next year. What do you hope to see from him in the future, and how will you help him get there along the way?

MC: I hope to see my brother be the toughest player Batavia has next year. He already is one of the toughest now, but I’m going to encourage him to work as much as possible this offseason to keep getting better.

Tonight, Malachi and his 10 senior teammates are playing in what could possibly be their final game together on the basketball court. Expect them to come out firing.
