The Notre Dame Boys Basketball team has traveled through unfamiliar road throughout the past few seasons, but seem to have a more-favorable outlook heading into the 2017-2018 season. Several key players return to the lineup for the Fighting Irish, along with a bunch of up-and-coming talent which should help spur a rebound within the GR League. Here is a brief preview of their upcoming slate:

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Head Coach: Mike Rapone

Record Last Season: 6-16

Key Players

Ryan Moffat (Senior) – Ryan was one of the GR League’s top-five leading scorers a season ago, and has the opportunity to improve his positioning in that category in ’17-’18.

Nico Zambito (Senior) – Nico was one of four GR League players to average a double-double (points, rebounds) in 2016-2017. He will be one of the elite big men in the League this season.

Coach’s Outlook

“We return four players who started last season and they provide a solid foundation for what we hope to achieve this season. They each learned a lot last year and I expect them all to be much improved.

This will be deep team with many players that are capable of making contributions on any given night. I believe anyone of them is capable of stepping up and having a big game.

Our pre-season work has been setback a bit by football injuries to Moffat and Klotzbach. It may take us until after the first of the year before we fully become the team I think we can be.”

– Notre Dame HC Mike Rapone

I expect a strong run for Notre Dame this season. I would be surprised if they didn’t at least double their win total from a year ago. Stay tuned for continued coverage of GR League Basketball.
