Last night at SUNY Geneseo, the Notre Dame Hockey team fell to Geneseo by a final score of 2-1. Ahead 1-0 to begin the game on a Dylan D’Alba goal, which was assisted by Brad Misiak and Cole Hudson on the power play, the Irish held that advantage as the first period came to a close. However, as ND allowed the Lakers to find the back of the net during the second, the two sides would go into the final period deadlocked at 1 tally a piece.

For much of the third each side played even hockey, but with exactly 4:00 to go in the contest, Geneseo scored for the second time in the game in order to take the lead – and eventually won the game.

“We played a pretty good game,” said ND head coach Marc Staley following the loss, “But their goaltender stood on his head and stopped 33 out of 34 shots. I was hoping Notre Dame could win their first league championship in 24 years, but the loss tonight means that Geneseo has basically locked it up.”

What started as a historic season for the Irish has quickly turned into a struggle to keep their head above water, as despite starting the season undefeated they have now lost 4 of their last 7. Although they remain as one of the upper-tier teams in Class B, Notre Dame has a long way to go if they hope to defeat the top-teams in their class down the stretch of Sectional play.
