An incredibly hot start turned into a lopsided victory for the Notre Dame Softball team on Friday evening, as the Irish overcame Byron-Bergen by a final score of 21-13.

Notre Dame scored in every inning yesterday, including eight runs in the first three frames, and got huge production from what is expected to be a potent lineup – including a five hit, seven RBI performance from their catcher Cynthia Dylestra-Culver.

The ND backstop finished 5/6 on the day, including the seven RBI and a run scored, but she wasn’t the only one to come away with a big day at the plate. Abby Pingrey also chipped in a notable effort scoring six runs while driving in three others. Callie McCulley, Audrey Farrell, and Anna Kabel added multi-hit games for ND.

Audrey Farrell went the complete game inside the circle for ND, picking up the win while allowing 11 hits and striking out four.

Dana Van Valkenberg led the way for Byron-Bergen in the loss, recording three hits, one RBI, and three runs scored. Abby Vurraro added two hits, three RBI, and a run scored.

With the win Notre Dame is 1-0, while Byron-Bergen falls to 0-2.
