Getting their season off to a solid start, the Oakfield baseball team moved past Alexander yesterday afternoon behind solid performances from both Joe Burdick and Matt Gilbert. The Hornets’ duo combined for the win on the mound, striking out six along the way, while also finishing with three total RBI at the plate.
Trevor Maier and Zach Grazioplene also helped OA’s cause as they each finished with two hits, a walk, and two runs scored. Maier added two RBI, while Grazioplene chipped in one RBI of his own. For the Trojans’ in the loss, Ryan Davis recorded a 2/3 day with one run scored, and one RBI.
Despite leading 4-3 after four innings, the Alexander offense suddenly went dry in the fifth while the Oakfield offense awoke from their slumber with the help of a few throwing errors committed by their opponent. Over the final three frames OA outscored the Trojans 8-0, and walked away with the seven-run win.
In total OA collected 10 hits while walking six times against Alexander starter Tyrone Woods (3 IP) and reliever Jake Farnsworth (4 IP). The Trojans managed eight hits and just the four runs in the loss.
The win for OA puts them at 1-0, while ALEX falls to 0-1.
