The Oakfield Boys Basketball team opened the season last night with a non-league victory over Roy-Hart (VI), by a final score of 69-56.

“I thought the boys played with great energy and stuck to the game plan tonight,” said OA head coach Ryan Stehlar following the Hornets’ win. “There are so many emotions (tied into) the first game, but I felt they collected themselves, and made the right plays down the stretch.”

Sparking the Hornet offense on Wednesday was Tyler Ohlson, who just missed a game-high – finishing with 27 points. Roy-Hart’s Jake Bruning was barely better than Ohlson, scoring 28 points for the Rams in a losing effort. Ryan Douglas chipped in 17 points for Oakfield.

“(We) responded well to every key-moment throughout the game,” added Stehlar.

Next up for Oakfield (1-0) will be Byron-Bergen (1-2) on Friday.
