Oakfield/Elba Hornets (GR)

Season Outlook: Oakfield/Elba saw their Girls team have a tough time last season, as they finished a disappointing 1-7. However, this year, the Hornets have their sights set on an improved campaign.

The three-time defending GR League Divisional Champion OA/E Boys are due for another successful season, as they return plenty from a group who finished 8-1 a season ago. In addition to what they bring back, they will build upon their roster’s embarrassment of riches with a list of first year athletes who will join the program.

Key Players: Shelby Carlsen – Shelby, a former GR League All-Star and the leader of the girls squad, put together quite the successful season in 2017. She will contribute in the jumping events and relays this year.; Logan CadieuxLogan was awarded GR League Honorable Mention last season, and as another leader of this team will compete in distance events as well as the relays.Cole O’Donnell – Cole is a two-time GR League All-Star and is one of the GR League’s, and Section V’s top-distance runners.; Ryan DouglasRyan is also a former GR League All-Star, and will help the team in jumping events as well as sprint relays.; Kyle MottKyle is another former GR League All-Star, and joins his teammate Cole O’Donnell as one of the top-distance runners in the GR League, and the Section.; Zack Hall – The last of the Hornets’ former GR League All-Stars, Zack is a freshman but will help the team as another of its strong distance runners.

Coach’s Quote: “Our girls team hasn’t seen the wins lately that we would have liked, but we have a good combination of veteran leadership and upcoming young talent that will make this a fun season at OA-E,” said Oakfield/Elba head coach Pete Beuler about the Girls team. “The boys team has tasted success in season’s past, but duplicating those feats in track and field is no easy task. If we truly try to improve each and every day at practice for each other at practice, we will have a great season.”
