A solid combined effort from Ian Lenhardt and Tanner Richardson sparked Cal-Mum Baseball’s big win over defending Section V Champion Le Roy last night, as the two Red Raiders’ hurlers limited the Knights’ offense to just two runs – allowing their offense to do just enough to come away with the victory.

Cal-Mum took a 2-1 lead after three innings on Friday afternoon, but let LR tie the score at two in the top of the seventh. In the bottom half of the final frame, despite their first two batters failing to reach base, the Red Raiders mounted a two-out rally.

Reaching base first for C-M was Lenhardt, who roped a single to the left side, and was then followed by Tanner Richardson who walked. Coming up next was Matt O’Donoghue, who was previously 0-3 on the day. Working a full count, O’Donoghue capped off his at bat with a base hit to right field which scored Lenhardt, and won the game for the Raiders by a final score of 3-2.

It’s one of the biggest wins in recent history for the Cal-Mum Baseball program, who underwent a coaching change in the offseason.

Richardson recorded the lone multi-hit game for the Raiders yesterday, finishing 2/2 with two walks, a double, and one RBI.  Joe Butler also put forth a notable effort for C-M, reaching base three times, and scoring twice. Over 6 1/2 IP Lenhardt allowed just five hits while striking out 11, while Richardson went the final 2/3 IP, allowing one hit while striking out two.

Gavin Luckey recorded the big day at the plate for the Knights, reaching base three times and scoring twice. Reece Tresco had two doubles and one RBI for LR in the loss.

Next up for Le Roy will be a matchup with Wayland-Cohocton on Monday, while Cal-Mum looks forward to Warsaw on the same day.
