Olivia and the Lady Trojans were one of the most disruptive defensive teams in the GR League this year – and she was a big part of it. Here is Olivia’s profile:

Olivia George – Alexander High School – Girls Basketball

AB: Your team had strong year, performing exceptionally well on the defensive end, and also playing admirably offensively. Did you view yourselves as a complete team? Or did you feel one end of the court was more important for you girls throughout the course of the season?

OG: Our offense was good when we were able to penetrate the defense and get the ball into the forwards. I think our speed was crucial on both offense and defense. We were able to attack and catch the other team off guard. Coach Marcia always said we were one of the fastest teams she had ever coached and she made sure to keep us in shape.

AB: What is your favorite to play? Offense, or defense?

OG: Defense for sure. Pressuring the other team and forcing turnovers and scoring off of them is one of the best feelings. Coach Marcia always put me on the point guard which I enjoyed because I liked reading their every move and pressuring them so they struggled to run their offense.

AB: As a junior this season, are you looking forward to next year, as you have one more chance to win a sectional championship?

OG: Yes, after the accomplishments myself and my team made this season I’m looking forward to one more season playing for Marcia and hopefully bringing home a sectional title for her.

AB: How do you feel about your chances next season?

OG: Losing 5 solid seniors, 4 of which were starters is definitely going to have an impact on the team next year. I feel that Marissa Scharlou, who will also be a senior, and the two underclassman (Lexi Breton and Macie Riggs) who were pulled up this season will definitely be an asset to our goal of winning next year. We’re definitely going to have to work hard in the offseason to get the upcoming Jv players ready for varsity play. Looking forward to the challenge.

AB: Finally, is there anything specific you hope to accomplish individually on your way out?

OG: Playing in the exceptional senior game and/or the Ronald McDonald game are something I would definitely love to be a part of next year after watching my fellow teammates play in the exceptional senior game. After earning Genesee Region player of the week this year, being voted Genesee Region player of the year would be a very fulfilling accomplishment for me.

Next year, I would imagine Alexander will be able to rebound despite losing a few key players.
