Matching up with a Class A school in their first game of the season, the Pembroke Boys Basketball team was forced to kick it into high gear last night vs School of the Arts out of Rochester – as the Dragons defeated the Silverhawks by a final score of 76-56. Pacing the Pembroke offense on Wednesday was senior Reid Miano, who finished with 22 points.

“(Reid) was aggressive getting to the basket, and didn’t settle for jump shots,” remarked Pembroke head coach Matt Shay following the win. “He also really battled on the glass for us – which is something I challenged him (to do) after our first couple of scrimmages.”

In addition to Miano, three other Dragons scored in double-figures, as senior Lucas Kohorst finished with 12 points, senior Jamil Marable with 12, and senior Ethan Stone with 10.

“We had great contributions from everyone that played in the game,” added Shay. “Seven different guys scored, including four in double-digits. We had some foul trouble and guys came in and stepped up big for us.”

Pembroke was without senior Zach von Kramer in the game, who has begun the season on the shelf with a broken foot, and once he returns to the lineup it will give the Dragons another offensive threat.

For SOTA in the loss yesterday, Ethan Clarke-DeSouza, and Reginald Smith each recorded 18 points.

Next up for Pembroke (1-0) will be a league matchup with Alexander (1-0) on December 5th.
