It was a shocking result, but one that the Elba Girls Basketball team was happy with, as the Lady Lancers routed Notre Dame last night behind 25 points from senior forward Emily Reynolds. With the final score 63-37 in favor of the Lancers, Elba is now one step closer to avenging last season’s loss to the Irish in the Section V Class D Crossover game.
A big reason for the lopsided final was the incredible defensive performance put forth by the Lancers.
“The girls were able to shut down the driving lanes for the most part,” said Elba head coach Tom Redband about his team’s stellar defense performance vs ND. “(We) pride ourselves on being fundamental and not having breakdowns on defense.”
“(I) certainly didn’t expect the point differential to be so big, but the girls never let up and kept pushing (throughout),” finished Redband.
The lone ND player in double-figures on Thursday was Callie McCulley – who finished with 12 points.
With the win, Elba is now 2-0, while Notre Dame falls to 1-1.
Next up for the Lancers is Wheatland-Chili on December 12th, while the Irish face-off with Lyndonville on the same night.
