Shai had an up-and-down year this season as he struggled through a wrist injury that hampered him during the middle portion of the Red Raiders schedule. However, he still finished the year as perhaps their most important player.
Here is his profile:
Shai Nelson – Cal-Mum High School – Boys Basketball
5’8″ – 145 lbs – Senior
Favorite thing about High School Sports: “The family-like bond you create from the team being together so much.”
Most memorable moment in High School Sports career: “Winning Sectionals in 2015.”
Plans after High School: “Attend either RIT for Mechanical Engineering or Alfred State for Diesel Mechanics.”
AB: Coming off a sectional championship, how tough was it to go through a transition year at C-M this season?
SN: Very tough. It was hard to get through the idea that winning wouldn’t be as prominent as it was last year. But as a team we still worked hard every day to get better.
AB: How do you feel the younger guys did this season, working through adversity and continuing to improve despite difficult times?
SN: I was extremely pleased with the effort of the younger guys this season. They really showed eagerness to learn and improve their basketball ability.
AB: What did you do to help the younger players this season?
SN: I just tried to be as much of a mentor figure as possible and used the knowledge that I have in basketball to make them better players.
AB: Do you feel the future is bright at Cal-Mum?
SN: I feel the future is extremely bright for the Basketball program here at Cal-Mum. I go to a lot of the youth games and see a lot of young kids with potential to be great players.
AB: Finally, what will you remember most about your time playing basketball for the Red Raiders?
SN: I will remember how big of a tradition basketball was at the school at the time I was here. Also, it was incredible to see the amount of support we had through the season from people in the community.

Shai did a great job as one of the only upperclassmen leaders this season for the Red Raiders.
