Batavia Boys Basketball Champs

Doubt.

From my perspective, that’s what surrounded this year’s Batavia Boys Basketball team all season long.

However, despite the lack of confidence I had in this group from the middle portion of the season, until the end – they came through last night in a big way.

And they proved me wrong.

In the Class A2 Finals last night vs Wilson, the Blue Devils didn’t play their best game of the season, but it was perhaps their grittiest performance of them all. Out-rebounding a big, strong, Wilson team 30-12 during the first half, and continuing to dominate the boards in the second half, Batavia truly would not quit vs the Wildcats – even though at times they couldn’t buy a basket.

Wilson continuously cut the score down to low single digits throughout the second half, but after bending near the point of breaking, the Devils refused to come apart – instead staying together until the final horn sounded.

Once the game was over, the true elation on the faces of the Batavia players was clear as they embraced near the bench.

They had finally done it.

The journey was complete.
