Tiara endured an incredible career while at Batavia – including becoming the school’s leading scorer. Here is her profile:

Tiara Filbert – Batavia High School – Girls Basketball

5’9″ – Senior

Career Highlight #1 – “Being the first Lady Devils to score 1,000+ points.”
Career Highlight #2 – “Being a part of the team that won a girls basketball sectional title for the first time in BHS History.”
Career Highlight #3 – “Being selected as a player in the Ronald McDonald game.”

Favorite thing about High School Sports: “One of the things I liked about high school sports is being able to play three sports in a school year. In my case, this opened my eyes that basketball was the sport I would  be able to continue to play after graduating, while allowing me to experience other sports. Whether you are new to a sport or a returning athlete, the unity I’ve experienced with teammates helped me to encourage as well as be encouraged while performing in sports.”

Most memorable moment in High School Sports career: “I’m going to always remember all the fun times I had with my teammates in all the sports I played throughout my high school career, but the most memorable would be having five teams so far this year each win a sectional title. It was fun supporting those teams and I am just thankful for all the support given to the girls basketball team in order for us to accomplish what we did.”

Plans after High School: “My plan is to continue playing basketball while attending college to obtain my Doctorate in Physical Therapy.”

AB: You had one heck of a career at Batavia. Is there anything you feel you didn’t accomplish that you may have wanted to before your career started?

TF: We had a great year this year, but if I had to answer honestly, I would have loved to have had a chance at the State Championship. To represent New York would have been another great thing in addition to the sectional title to be able to bring home to Batavia.

AB: What is it like being just 1 of 2 thousand point scorers at Batavia in school history?

TF: It is a gratifying feeling to be able to set the bar for aspiring girl basketball players in our program. Not only being the first to achieve this feat, but being able to witness Maddi reach that milestone as well makes it even sweeter. My hope is that players to come will strive to surpass what we have laid the foundation for. I hope in the future to be able to come back and witness other young women accomplish that achievement.

AB: Is that your most memorable accomplishment? Or would you have to say it would be something else?

TF: Although being in the 1,000+ club has been quite an honor, I’d have to say my most memorable moment would be winning the sectional title while playing against Pittsford Mendon. Through the last three years we struggled a bit and had some tough times finding our footing at that level of competition. This year, we flipped the script and started a chapter in our own book. We had one goal and that was to win sectionals.

AB: What will you miss most about playing at Batavia after you graduate?

TF: A big part I’m going to miss is the coaching staff. My coaches in all my seasons have always encouraged me during as well as outside of my sports, pushing me to be the best student athlete I could be. I will never forget the feeling of being on all the close-knit teams I had the ability to be on.. From having cross-country roof ball games to having basketball dance offs, and even the after game pig out sessions with the guys on the lacrosse team at Steve T’s, there are just memories that I will always carry with me.

AB: Finally, what do you see from this team going forward? Although the team is losing plenty, they still have plenty of young players returning.

TF: With any sport, there always has to be some type of rebuilding when players graduate. We have a great group of returning players, and I know that the upperclassmen on the team will be able to take the younger ones and build them up before it’s their turn to move on and pass down the legacy. I definitely feel that sometime in the future, many will see Batavia girls basketball winning sectionals again.
