Two area strokers achieved first place finishes at the Section V Swimming Championships over the weekend, as Sydney St. Rose-Finear (Wheatland-Chili), and Tyler Stachowiak (Attica) each took home some hardware.

Stachowiak, who came into the Section V Swimming Championships as the #1 seed in the Class C 200 Freestyle, won the event by swimming a final time of 1:48.50 – edging Zach Dean of Marcus Whitman by less than half of a second. He also picked up the title in the Class C 100 Freestyle, defeating runner-up Robert Atwood of Avon by less than half of a second as well.

For St. Rose-Finear she too came in as a top-ranked swimmer, in the 500 Freestyle, and went on to win the title after finishing with a time of 4:56.10 – near 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Dan Nickerson of Notre Dame. St. Rose-Finear also recorded a second place finish in the 200 Freestyle.

In Class B, Batavia’s Cooper Mattice recorded a second place finish in the 100 Backstroke (55.19) – the only other local swimmer to finish within the top-two of a given event.

Another successful season of Section V Swimming is in the books. Congrats to all on a fantastic year.
