Down 2 at half.

Down 3 at the end of the third quarter.

Didn’t matter for Oakfield on Tuesday night.

Battling their way back from what seemed like a game-long deficit, the Hornets found a way to save their best for last vs the Blue Devils – outscoring them 16-13 during the fourth quarter in order to push a close game to overtime – where Oakfield would eventually complete the comeback and win the game 62-59.

“I’m proud of the guys heart and hard work,” said Oakfield head coach Ryan Stehlar following Tuesday’s game. “They stuck to the game plan and didn’t panic. Guys really stepped up when we needed them.”

Leading the list of those who were able to step up for the Hornets were Reice Woodward who scored 18 points (and 10 rebounds), Allen Chatt who recorded 17 points, and Josiah Yantz who dropped 16 of his own. Trey Nadolinski added 7 points for OA.

For Attica in defeat, Owen Thompson recorded 23 points to lead the Blue Devils, while Colden George was right behind with 15 of his own.

The win was a big one for the Hornets, at least in my mind, as I had Attica ranked #1 in my preseason GR Boys Basketball Power 5 which came out on Monday. Moving forward, with more shifts and surprises sure to come throughout the remainder of the season, it will be interesting to see which teams within the league find a way to be there at the very end.

As of right now, however, Oakfield fans aren’t too happy with me for leaving their team out of my rankings…

(My mom is the school nurse – that’s why it’s funny)

Stay tuned for updated versions of my Power 5 as I see fit throughout the season.
