As we approach the first round of the Batavia Lions Club Basketball Tournament tonight, here are 5 things you should focus on in order to be prepared for the games:

– After a first round victory over Batavia, U Prep won last year’s Batavia Lions Club Basketball Tournament over Notre Dame by a final score of 63-49 in the title game. Prior to their first round loss to the Griffins in 2014, Batavia had won over 15-straight tournament games – including 8-straight tournament championships.

– It was the first year since 2003 that the tournament title was not won by Batavia (Bishop Timon won in ’03).

– Notre Dame’s last tournament title came in 1996 by my records, when Mike Redick won the tournament MVP.

– This season, U Prep comes into the tournament with two of their top-scorers from a season ago in Isaiah Brinkley and Jeenathan Williams. In last year’s title game, Brinkley scored a game-high 24 points, while Williams racked up 13 against ND.

– Batavia defeated Albion 68-31 in the consolation round last year.
