Following the first three games of the Sabres’ season, and an injury to starting goaltender Robin Lehner that will keep him out 6-10 weeks, I am beginning to grow concerned with Buffalo’s outlook between the pipes.

Lehner suffered a high ankle sprain in the Sabres season opener, and since then, new starter Chad Johnson has given up 7 goals over two and a half games – which has been a bit short of relieving in the wake of the injury to his predecessor. However, going forward, with Johnson not typically used to full-time duty, what will the Sabres do to lessen the loss of their starter?

For the time being, they have elected to back-up Johnson with minor-league call-up Nathan Lieuwen as they await the return of the newly acquired Lehner – but I am not sure that will be adequate enough. I was originally worried with Lehner, and now my worries have only increased.

In the near future, I am unsure of the possibility of the Sabres trading for a new goaltender, however, I doubt that they would be in the market for one considering their busy offseason. It seems to me Sabres fans will have to ride it out with Johnson and hope for the very best – which is disconcerting to say the least.
