A few key departures, including their previous head coach, will certainly make things difficult on the Alexander Basketball team heading into this season. However, a talented duo returns for the Trojans, and it will be interesting to see whether or not they’ll be able to maintain their success. Here is a brief preview of their upcoming slate:

Alexander Trojans

Head Coach: Wayne Hanley

Record Last Season: 14-8

Key Players

Erik Scharlau (Senior) – Erik won our Defensive Player of the Year Award last season and should be in for another big year in ’17-’18 as the Trojans’ center. He averaged 8 points, and 10 rebounds per contest a season ago.

Chris McClinic (Junior) – Chris returns as Alexander’s top guard this year, and will be one of the best at his position in all of the GR League. He averaged 12 points, 4 assists last year.

Coach’s Outlook

“We will be a very young team this year with only two experienced players returning from last year’s team. Our season will depend on how fast the young players adapt to playing at the varsity level.

We will be challenged with getting players to buy into a new system, and (the speed at which) they adjust will determine our success this year. I expect there will be some growing pains throughout this season because we are such a young team with a new system and coaching staff. “

– Alexander HC Wayne Hanley
