*UPDATED: (There was previously a mistake concerning the score at the half. It was my error and I have made the adjustment.)

An anonymous source from within the Attica football program contacted me this afternoon in hopes of clearing the air of some, what were in their mind, misguided allegations about the Blue Devils’ decision to onside kick while ahead 33-7 in their matchup with the Irish this past week.

“Clearly the timing seemed bad, but it was something that the team had worked on in practice, and the coaches saw on film that their front line was backing off before the kick got away,” the source said. “We were going to do it while ahead 21-0*, but that was just before the half, and if it failed, they would have gotten the ball back with a short field and a chance to cut the lead. A few years back, our team lost a game up there after leading by 20+ points.”

The source went on to include that it is a known fact that their program, as well as many around the GR League, feel extra incentive when it comes to facing off versus the Irish for various reasons, but in no way were the Blue Devils trying to rub their face in the lopsided score.

What do you think?
