Sometimes dreams do come true. And that is exactly what has happened for the Batavia Boys Basketball team this season.
Following a gritty 57-53 victory over old-time rival Pittsford Sutherland last night, the Blue Devils will now move on to Buff State where they will face Williamsville South in the Far West Regional on Saturday at 7 pm – which is just one step away from Glens Falls.
If you asked me in December, January, or even February,
whether or not this team had a chance to achieve what they have achieved – I would have said no way. But give this group credit, as throughout the stretch run that they have endured, they have put forth quality effort, after quality effort which has earned them a spot in the State Tournament.
Being a part of Batavia Boys Basketball since I was a kid, and having gone through countless heartbreaking losses to Sutherland over the years – including one in the mid 2000s that came after the Devils led by about 10 with :30 left in the Sectional Final (Sutherland won at the buzzer) – last night’s win was about as exciting as I can remember.
Give credit to this team, who has continued to push through adversity with each passing game, all culminating in a shot at the ultimate goal – a trip East on the I-90 to Glens Falls.
